A pair of congressmen out of Florida are pushing for a bill to make animal cruelty a felony under federal law. Offenders could get 7 years in prison. In 2010 the feds passed a law banning animal cruelty videos, but didn't go after the underlying act.

Good news for you beach-goers, though I suppose this isn't really prime beach trip weather. Last year, Unprovoked shark attacks in Florida were down 50% from the year before from 31 to 16. The number reportedly dropped by 25% worldwide.

We're apparently in the middle of Florida Strawberry Restaurant Week! Which I never heard of until yesterday, but I'm down for any excuse to eat strawberries. It seems like the participating restaurants are farther down south, but that doesn't mean you cant pretend your kitchen is a restaurant and coat some shortcake.
